Assisted dying laws are to be introduced into the Victorian parliament in 2017, to potentially legalise euthanasia.

Voluntary euthanasia is a controversial topic with just as many for it as against it. The Andrews Government released a statement in late 2016 saying that the bill would allow adults with decision-making capacity, at the end of their lives and suffering from a terminal illness could be provided with assistance to die. Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said he does not support voluntary euthanasia.

The process through parliament is intended to be an inquiry into how we would assist people to die in Victoria, and what laws would be required. This would include who qualifies and how the system would work. Many MPs have suggested they support these measures, so long as they were strict.
