While being intoxicated is a poor excuse for most things, by law you are recognised as being different to normal, and therefore you can use this as a defence for some of your actions that had you been in your right mind, you wouldn’t have done.
This is applied to charges of murder, manslaughter, defensive homicide, attempted murder or attempted defensive homicide, with the offence having been committed after 23 November 2005. It may help to negate part of the offending, so the sense of the act being voluntary, self defence, or even as evidence that the accused did or did not commit the offence.
