The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) is a Victorian-based government organisation that is involved in road safety, trauma systems, and caring for those who are injured on the roads in Victoria. TAC provides compensation to injured people.

     Maximising your TAC claim
We can assist you in your TAC claim so you get the most out of it. Make sure your documents are complete and lodged on time, and you haven’t missed anything.

     TAC – am I covered?
If you have a vehicle registered in Victoria, your TAC payment is added to your registration. This covers you and others, no matter who caused the accident. Any vehicle used solely on private property (like a farm) is not forced to participate, but these vehicles can be included if you wanted them to – but you have to have paid. This applies even if the vehicle was out of state at the time of the accident.

TAC – what it pays for
TAC offers compensation funds for treatments, rehabilitation, disability services, assistance with income, travel, and home support services. This may include ambulance fees, hospital costs and nurse fees, and extends as far down to treatment and home support for those who are severely disabled or injured. It includes therapy, medication, and equipment.

TAC – what it does not pay for
TAC does not cover the damage of property – this is the role of your vehicle insurance.

     TAC claims
Anyone injured in a Victorian-registered vehicle can make a compensation claim for injuries sustained while on the roads. This can include cars, motorbikes, trains, trams, buses, and some bicycles. There are many benefits available.

How to make a TAC claim
First, you will be required to see your doctor to report the accident and start the paper trail. Your doctor will provide treatment. You will then report the incident to the police, and if the accident included public transport, the transport provider. Then, you should call the TAC and make a claim, whereby they will send you a claim form. You have a year from that date to get the forms back to TAC.

This process is pretty straightforward, but if for some reason your claim is denied or not returned in time, contact us for assistance.

     What is a ‘no-fault’ benefit?
A no-fault benefit means it doesn’t matter who was at fault; everyone is equally able to claim compensation.
