Couples may make wills at the same time, and they may enter into mirror wills or mutual wills.

A mirror will is a will that is exactly the same as the other person’s, and means that if one partner dies, the living partner inherits everything, then the children. This can become complicated when the living partner remarries, and they can completely change the will however they please.

In a mutual will, both partners agree that no matter what, they can’t change the will after one partner dies. It must remain the same, even if they remarry. This is a contract, and must be upheld.
